Bye, bye Negrescu

No need for the alarm this morning as we didn’t need to be in reception till 11am for our lift, and also the sun was shining so brightly it was difficult to sleep! Of course it was. Breakfast was lovely, sat in the open air bit by the pool. Loads of people were already splashing and sunbathing at 10am.

Nice view for breakfast

We had a few last photos looking out over the islands before going back up to pack

As we were checking out a large party of Malaysians were doing the same, and apparently were sharing our transport to the boat. It took them an age, the assistant manager kept telling us it wouldn’t be long. Eventually they were corralled into one truck, and we got into the other with all the luggage. Just as we were leaving Negrescu popped up to wish us a good trip. Scary. No sign of the spy lady though. All the way to the dock we had to stop the other parties luggage falling off the back, not sure we signed up for that, but it was a pleasant trip. We hadn’t seen much on arrival due to rain.

Our driver got us our tickets for the supaporn boat. Speedboat this time, and sunny. we all piled on, our luggage was done for us too.

The long tail boat we were on last time

On the back of the speedboat

Not surprisingly the trip was much shorter, and a little guy was waiting with my name on a sheet at the other end. These transfers have been so smooth in the main. Half an hour later we were arriving at the Como Point Yamu. As we wound up the drive we could see it’s a bit swish here. We were ushered into the open reception and told to sit on a settee.

As I was beginning to wonder where my cold flannel and welcome drink was (this isn’t my first Thai rodeo) a young lady scootled up with them, and also a lovely welcome garland for both our wrists. Sweet.

Settees a bit wide based for some of us

Our room was ready we were told, but first, a tour of the restaurants and pool to get our bearings. Because the hotel is on a point you can see the sun rising over one side of the pool and setting over the other. Nice. We then got taken down some stairs and along a really impressive Hotel corridor. You don’t get one of these in a Travelodge.

Our room 203

Inside we were stunned. Probably the best hotel room we’ve ever had.

They know who wears the trousers

Balcony number two

The view

There’s also a giant shower with a giant rain head. I had one while Ian went in search of the free popsicles. The dressing gowns (of course they have them) are lined with toweling material so it drys you as you wear it.

Free popsicle. Different flavour every day

We sat on the balcony just chillin for a bit. A catamaran filled with people came along and parked down below so we got the binocs out to have a look. There were loads of birds, Green bee eaters all over, tons of Minah birds and oriental magpie robins swooping about. Ian went in for a shower while I went round to the second balcony to DEET up. As I turned the corner movement caught my eye. A long green snake was staring right at me. Oh hell! As Indie once said, I do not like snakes. However, in the interest of this blog, I rushed back in and got my phone to take a picture. As I came back out it was winding its way up the metal grating of the balcony to the one above.

There he is

Checking into it he is either a Green tree snake, harmless, or a Green mamba, highly venomous. I’m assuming the former.
Just like my whale in Iceland, Ian missed all the excitement.
Happy hour is 5-6, so with the prices here being astronomical we went up to take advantage. The pool is something else as well. We ordered two G and T’s And had an hour watching the World go by. There are very few people in this Hotel as well, no worries about those Germans snagging all the sun beds.

Spot the people

After our aperitif we took ourselves off to the ‘Italian style’ restaurant for tea. It’s massive and beautifully designed, a real five star establishments, and just us and a party of four dining. You do get special service that way. Ian being Ian, he had gorged himself on the complementary crisps and dried fish that came with the G and T’s, And wasn’t too hungry. Good job, as though the food was delicious, scallops for him and salmon for me, there wasn’t a lot of it. And it’s really pricy.

Walking back to the room we noticed that the fish outside were swimming. The open doors and breeze were making the fish in the art installation dance. Wow! We snuggled down in our humongous bed and waved goodnight to each other. We are booked in on the 11am shuttle to the hotels private beach club tomorrow.

Man of the day

Our speedboat driver. He drove like a bat out of hell without even scaring me

Toilet watch

They don’t come much better than the one in our room. It even has a phone in there. Although I did find a baby lizard lurking in the corner. 9/10

Homeward bound

We woke to our last day in Thailand after another 11 hour sleep for me, and I felt so much better. We threw back the curtains to the same am...
